Tournament Dates
A tounament to mark the start of the 2010 season was held on Sunday 11 April and was won by Peter Lees and Rachel Taylor, who beat Adrian Mueller and Sarah Constable. Click here for some pictures.
The annual Walter Davies tournament was held on 2 June. On a fine summer's evening eleven couples competed for the trophy and after several hard-fought matches the eventual winners were Jo Lawson and Brian Pitts, who won the final against Jane Archer and Clem Cooper. Sarah and Ann Constable organised the event and Sarah provided the pictures which can be seen here.
The Club held its traditional Wimbledon Finals Day Breakfast Tournament on Sunday 4 July, with an 8.00am start. Fortified with a small galss of Pimms, 16 competitors battled each other (and the wind), with Laura Oakes and Jack Davies overcoming Chris Thomas and Sarah Constable in a final deciding set. Breakfast followed, thanks to the efforts of Jo Lawson, Chris Hinks, Sue Hinks, Jane Archer and several other willing helpers, and was greatly enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike. Some pictures of the event taken by Jo Lawson can be found here.
On 14 July the traditional Captains' Night tournament took place. A lot of people took part and everyone agreed it was a very enjoyable event. Adam Baker's team eventually ran out the winners over Chris Thomas's team.

The 2010 24 hour Tennis Playing fundraiser and Summer Fete was hugely successful. It took place over a fine weekend on July 10 and 11. Junior members kicked things off on Saturday morning and play continued throughout Saturday and Sunday, with some members ensuring that the goal of 24 hour non-stop tennis at the Club was achieved, by playing during the night. Proceedings were rounded off on Sunday with a fete at which there were games and food for all. Many people contributed to the success of the weekend and the Club thanks them all.
Saturday 15 May turned out to be a bright sunny day and the annual brunch and table top sale got off to an early start. Thanks to Sue Hinks, Pauline Bolsom and cook Chris Hinks, who worked tirelessly all morning aided by several volunteers, members and guests enjoyed their 'full English' very much. Chris Thomas was in charge of the table top sale and managed to persuade people to part with their money in aid of club funds. In the background, junior and adult beginner coaching continued in full swing.
On Friday 23 April eight teams competed in the annual quiz held at High Ercall Village Hall organised by Sarah Constable. Many thanks to Sarah and to our quiz-master Geoff Howarth, and congratulations to the winning team, the Hollowheads, who very kindly donated their cash prize straight back into Club funds.
On Wednesday 5 May the annual Cheese & Wine Floodlit tournament was held at the Club. The event was very well attended with some 11 couples taking part. After some hard-fought sets in two groups a final was played in which a close match was eventually won by Annie Bradley and Peter Lees, the runners-up being Sarah Taylor and Steve Cooper.
A wide selection of cheeses was available afterwards and these together with the necessary amout of wine ensured a most enjoyable evening. Chairman Chris Hinks thanked Sally Price, Ann Constable, Chris Thomas and Sue Hinks for organising and catering for the event.
Dress
Please
ensure appropriate tennis footwear is worn at all times and that all
shale is removed from the soles of your shoes before going on the all
weather courts. This will protect against damage to the surface.
